CHAPTER FOUR
Ethan had been in the car for a very long time, it must have been at least several hours before they pulled into a hidden drive along a rural road and parked. The man who killed his two captors did not speak to him but was excessively rough in getting him out of the house and into another car. This one was a white SUV with a dark gray interior. It smelled like decay like something was rotting under the seats and made for a very putrid ride.
Ethan was scared out of his mind but was trying to hide it. After seeing those two men murdered in front of his eyes, he knew that there was a strong possibility that he would never escape and never see Cullen again. He should have listened to Cullen and taken someone with him. He thought the danger had passed with the war being over and things had gotten back to what seemed to be normal.
He should have taken heed of the signs that things were not back to normal. The Coven was still under tight security, Quinn and Fergus never left the Plantation except to visit the Dragon Circle in the Savage Mountains. When they visited, they were directly transported by Lucian. They understood the threat was still there and didn't give the Master grief about it. Why didn't he see it? He acted like an ass and pushed Cullen for constantly more freedom at a time that was still unpredictable. Now he was going to pay for that stupid petulance and so was Cullen.
That thought drove a spike right through his heart. His Cullen was looking for him, feverishly looking for him, he had no doubt. What effect would his death, his disappearance have upon his love? His heart started to bleed thinking that his foolishness was the cause of it all.
Yesterday his only concern was whining about Christmas and wanting Cullen to marry him. Those things seemed so ridiculous to him right now as he considered his life in the face of almost certain death. If he ever got out of this, he would not complain one minute about anything Cullen asked him to do. He would follow his direction and thank God he had someone like Cullen who loved him enough to worry about him. Christmas and a wedding he could do without, what he couldnât do without was the love of his life, Cullen Volakis.
The side door opened, and the mashed potato man in the leather coat pulled him out by the upper arm, nearly dislocating it in the process. Still, the man said nothing just grunted as he hauled him to a boarded-up entrance. It was a cave or a mine shaft or maybe had something to do with the sewer system. It was in the middle of what appeared to be a sparsely wooded area.
The man forced open the door and then propped it back into place. It didnât look to afford much protection, but Ethan
